BMC Acquires MQSoftware to Enhance MQ Monitoring
BMC Software has acquired privately held MQSoftware, a provider of middleware management and enterprise application transaction management markets. This acquisition expands BMC's leading Business Service Management platform, designed to provide customers views of their mainframe and distributed systems, to include entire middleware infrastructure and high-value business transactions it supports.
Explaining the rationale for the acquisition, Neil Blagrave, product manager for BMC, tells 5 Minute Briefing, "We got feedback from some of our largest customers telling us that WebSphere MQ messaging middleware was critical to their business. We also heard loud and clear that we at BMC needed to do a better job of helping them manage those environments. Our customers have been asking us for a true enterprise-wide solution for MQ monitoring. This deal addresses that need and it provides them with a solution that is easy to use, is enterprise-wide, is cross-platform, and all from a single pane of glass monitoring perspective."
According to BMC, companies rely on middleware to communicate between mainframe and distributed environments, but IT departments traditionally monitor, diagnose and address middleware and business transaction issues in silos. Viewing the environments without the context of the enterprise as a whole leads to increased costs, wasted skills and lost time. BMC's cross-enterprise solution aims to provide that context, leading to fewer service disruptions and quicker resolutions when problems do occur.
With the acquisition of MQSoftware, BMC says it can provide customers better ROI by helping them reduce costs up to 30% by eliminating monitoring silos for transactions and middleware; reduce downtime 90% or more by unifying transaction and messaging middleware performance monitoring across platforms and technologies; and improve staff productivity up to 40% by simplifying management tasks.
BMC says that because MQSoftware is a BMC Technology and MarketZone partner, BMC already has a strong understanding of the MQSoftware portfolio and has already integrated MQSoftware's transaction monitoring product into BMC's mainframe transaction solution. This acquisition is intended to provide customers with a scalable, proven and complete WebSphere MQ monitoring solution.
