U.K.’s National Weather Service Advances Modern Forecasting


The Met Office, the United Kingdom’s national weather service, works with customers in retail, energy, utility, insurance, transport and aviation industries – and offers services and reporting tailored to those sectors. Today, the mainframe is at the core of the Met Office’s IT infrastructure. Before consolidation to Linux on z, 204 x86 processor cores were allocated to Oracle – now the agency runs the same workloads on just 17 mainframe IFLs. Read more.
