A new IBM Systems Magazine article by Evelyn Hoover looks at the importance of IBM’s Linux-related announcements at LinuxCon North America, including the launch of the new IBM LinuxONE platform, and collaboration with the Linux Foundation to form the Open Mainframe Project. The Open Mainframe Project is intended to serve as a focal point for deployment and use of the Linux OS in a mainframe computing environment.
The article points out that the pace of Linux adoption is outstripping the supply of elements necessary for the OS’s success. “IBM is being extremely forward-looking in getting ahead of that, seeing the demand curve rising, seeing the use cases expand for Linux on the mainframe and building a program like this that will help supply talent to the mainframe,” says Jim Zemlin, Executive Director of the Linux Foundation, in the article.
