As the open source ecosystem grows, open standards are increasingly important, writes Shirley S. Savage in IBM Systems magazine. Long a champion of Linux, IBM is deepening its support for the system on the mainframe, according to Savage, by providing a missing link for z Systems users: “That link is a Kernel-based Virtual Machine (KVM), an open-standards-based hypervisor designed to take advantage of the z Systems platform.”
