EnterpriseDB, which provides products, services, support and training based on the PostgreSQL open source database project, has announced the availability of three components that add security and replication technology for community PostgreSQL Server users - SQL/Protect, PL/Secure and xDB Replication Server
EnterpriseDB's Postgres Plus Standard Server 9.0 delivers the latest features in PostgreSQL 9.0, plus value-added tools and services providing organizations with a complete enterprise-ready database installation.
SQL/Protect provides a DBA-managed layer of security against multiple classes of SQL injection attacks. Its fast installation, role-based assignments, and modes for learning, testing and active protection provide advanced security currently not widely available for PostgreSQL, according to EnterpriseDB It learns the common and approved patterns of SQL that comes back and forth in a particular server and then allows the DBA to set alerts to notify them of a potential injection attack but let the SQL continue running, or set it to alert them and also prevent any SQL from running, Robin Schumacher, director of product strategy, EnterpriseDB, explains. It also catalogs the injection attacks so DBAs can see if and when they were subject to attacks.
In addition, a second component, also aimed at security, PL/Secure, protects database code intellectual property from piracy and unauthorized access. It safeguards code stored in databases from theft and unauthorized viewing. The ability to encrypt sensitive application logic is especially attractive to companies that package a database along with a set of software that they are selling, notes Schumacher.
The third component, xDB Replication Server, provides a flexible technical solution with a graphical interface for integrating data from multiple PostgreSQL servers, as well as replicating data from Oracle to PostgreSQL.
The add-on modules are now available with a subscription to Postgres Plus Standard Server. For more information about EnterpriseDB, go here.
