A technical webcast presented recently by Christian Ehrhardt, IBM Boeblingen Programming Laboratory, covered the overall status of SUSE LINUX ENTERPRISE SERVER (SLES)11-SP1 from a performance point of view on System z. In the presentation, comparisons are made with SLES11 and SLES10-SP3, leading to a general summary and recommendations. Aimed at Linux on System z customers, IBM Business Partners, and IBMers, the webinar starts out with a brief overview and then dives in the analysis of different workload patterns, providing background about major improvements and known scenarios to keep an eye on, including some detection and workaround hints. "We design our set of measurement test cases by striving for good coverage of all workloads that are important for our customers and enterprise servers in general," notes Ehrhardt.
