IBM’s Jean Staten Healy to Discuss the Importance of Linux and Open Source at GOSCON 2010 in Portland — October 27-28

The premier global gathering on open source technology and solutions for public sector information technology professionals, GOSCON 2010 will bring together wide-ranging program and a prestigious list of speakers, including leaders from state and local government as well as industry thought leaders.

According to conference organizers, the hot topic this year is use of open source in supporting increasingly popular "open government," "open data" and transparency efforts in state and local governments in such areas as San Francisco, Washington, D.C., Vancouver, British Columbia, New York, Boston, California and Portland, Ore.

In a session to be presented by Jean Staten Healy, head of cross-IBM Linux strategy, Healy will explore the impact of Linux and open source in the data center and what that means to the typical public sector CIO in 2010 and beyond. For many governmental CIOs in 2010, Linux equals a faster path to gaining greater efficiencies in their data centers, while for others, Linux provides the foundation of a growing list of options as to how to supplement their capacity.

GOSCON 2010 will be held Oct. 27 through Oct. 28 at The Nines hotel in Portland, Ore. Information on the program, location and registration is available here.
