IBM Plans Sessions Targeting Key Trends for Red Hat Summit 2009

IBM, the Premier Sponsor of the Red Hat Summit 2009, September 1-4 in Chicago, is presenting four breakout sessions for the Red Hat Summit, each focused on key technology trends, including cloud computing, virtualization, System z and Linux, and consolidation of SAP environments with Power Systems. These are in addition to the IBM keynote by Bob Sutor on Wednesday morning.

  • Leading Enablement of Enterprise Cloud Computing - Wednesday, Sept. 2, 10:50am - 11:50am (What's Next track)

Presented by Bob Sutor, Vice President of Open Source and Linux at IBM; and Jim Adreon, Director, Infrastructure Business and Operational Services, Cloud Computing Enablement, this seminar will cover how IBM is addressing IT pain points through accelerated adoption of cloud computing environments.

Learn how IBM is creating new consumption and delivery models to drive new sourcing options and business flexibility, with new choices to deploy workloads that matter to enterprises with greater efficiency, productivity and control, especially those running on Red Hat Enterprise Linux.

  • IBM Dynamic Infrastructure: Virtualize, Automate and Optimize IT -Wednesday, Sept. 2, 3:20pm - 4:20pm (Open Source for IT Leaders track)

Consolidation and virtualization are key initiatives for reducing costs in the data center. Virtualized, automated systems not only reduce costs, they also provide the server, storage and application flexibility required to improve service in a dynamic infrastructure. As a primary maintainer of KVM, IBM is bringing a history of innovation in virtualization technology and implementation to the open source community.

Presented by Connie Blauwkamp - Software Strategy, IBM Systems and Technology Group; and Michael Day - Distinguished Engineer and Architect, Open Virtualization, IBM, this session will cover IBM's strategy for helping clients build a Dynamic Infrastructure, and will highlight the strategic role of KVM in IBM's Dynamic Infrastructure vision. Come and learn what IBM is bringing to KVM and why we think KVM can bring value to businesses through Dynamic Infrastructure.

  • Continuing Story of IBM's Consolidation on the IBM System z with Linux - Thursday, September 3, 11:20am - 12:20pm (What's Next track)

IBM's project 'Big Green' continues to spur a global shift to Linux on the Mainframe. Bill Reeder will present the latest view of how IBM has consolidated and virtualized thousands of server images onto the IBM System z. IBM's 'Big Green' project has recognized substantial savings in energy, software and systems support costs. Presented by Bill Reeder - STG Sales Linux and Virtualization Enterprise Systems Architecture, Strategy and Sales STG Platform Sales Specialist, IBM, this session will provide an opportunity to learn the latest information on IBM's Enterprise Computing Model and how it relates to Linux on the mainframe.

  • Understanding the cost savings associated with consolidating SAP environments on IBM Power Systems - Friday, September 4, 9:45am - 10:45am (Red Hat in Reality track)

Many customers have been managing large numbers of distributed Linux x86 systems running SAP modules. By reducing the total number of server footprints, customers can achieve savings in operational costs. In this session, presented by Bob Friske, IBM Power Systems Linux Offering Manager, learn how, through consolidation projects on IBM Power Systems, a smaller number of servers can support the entire SAP environment, reducing the organizations' operational costs for power/cooling and systems management, while providing more scalability to the SAP applications - and ensuring high levels of availability for end-users.

  • Linux Everywhere? Matching the Workload to the Computer - Wednesday, September 2, 10:10am - 10:40am (Summit General Session)

Bob Sutor - Vice President of Open Source and Linux at IBM, will be a featured keynote speaker at the Summit. Sutor will discuss the use of Linux on devices from wristwatches, mobile phones and netbooks to desktops, RISC-based computers and mainframes, and how users can effectively match the work they need to do on Linux to the appropriate software, processors and machines. "The prevalence of open source continues to grow with Linux touching individuals in many different aspects of their everyday life," says Sutor, who notes that it is important to match workloads to the computer to ensure that Linux implementations optimally run businesses and ultimately deliver value to end users.

Registration is open for the Red Hat Summit 2009 with "Advance" pricing still available.

September 15-Cloud Computing Webcast
