In a joint project, SAP and IBM have executed a proof of concept (PoC) to show the business advantages of taking an integrated end-to-end enterprise architecture approach with an Intel processor-based strategy. Called "IBM BigX for SAP applications," the PoC showed how an integrated hardware and software "Blue Stack" using IBM and SAP best practices and infrastructure virtualization complements SAP Business Suite applications, delivering lower system complexity, easier management, and reduced costs.
To enable an SAP multi-application environment, the PoC used the Intel processor-based IBM System x servers, IBM XIV Storage System technologies, IBM DB2 Optimized for SAP, IBM Tivoli Storage FlashCopy Manager, IBM Rational Performance Tester for SAP solutions complemented by Novell SUSE Linux Enterprise Server and VMware vSphere components.
