In a complicated production environment customers may be concerned about the slow response of certain aspects of their application, and it isn’t often easy to determine the cause of poor system performance.
Fortunately, SAP ASE Workload Analyzer--a new licensable feature--can help customers quickly diagnose and address such issues in production environments by capturing and replaying the workloads from their applications.
This feature reports metrics from the overall workload level (e.g., the number of connections or average response time) to individual client connections (e.g., total connection time, execution time, or number of queries submitted) to the performance of individual and repeated queries (e.g., most frequently executed queries or average execution time).
Such information will be useful for troubleshooting application performance problems.
The Workload Analyzer feature can also be used to replay the application activity on a test system, enabling customers to answer questions such as how configuration or database schema changes would affect application performance and whether software updates will improve overall application throughput. During replay, the rate of execution can be modified to increase or decrease average load on the server or to analyze a subset of queries from specified applications or logins.
