Many developers today still build on databases that weren’t designed for modern applications, creating challenges with scaling, resiliency, and performance. We founded Cockroach Labs because we'd felt that pain acutely in our own engineering careers.
We wanted to rewrite the database from scratch to unshackle teams from the constraints of their database and make data easy. As the world's first cloud-native, distributed SQL database, CockroachDB is built from the ground up to help developers and architects build and scale apps with fewer obstacles, more freedom, and greater efficiency.
We have seen massive growth, more than doubling revenue and customers over the past year. Our developer community, too, has grown significantly, reaching more than 20,000 GitHub stars and over 300 external contributors. Cockroach Labs was also inducted into the JPMorgan Chase Hall of Innovation and was named Crain’s #1 Best Places to Work in New York City for large companies.
But more important than the accolades are how we help our customers and open source users. Teams around the globe, including DoorDash, Comcast, and eBay, use CockroachDB to build scalable, resilient, and innovative apps and services that they simply could not build before.
We are on a long-term mission to be the database of choice for your most important applications. Our promise is to make scale so simple, you don't have to think about it. To make data so resilient, it becomes impossible to destroy. And to make deployment so seamless, your apps effortlessly run anywhere in the world.
