Rocket's free U2 DataVu Query tool has been enhanced with new capabilities to combine users' queries and results. Users can filter and quickly create charts with just a couple of clicks. In addition, a new quick-start wizard guides users through the steps to connect to U2 data. Separately, Rocket Software announced that Heather Smiles has joined the U2 team as marketing manager.

"Our customers are excited about the new one-click chart generation feature, which allows you to select columns from a query result and with one click turn them into the chart of your choice."

The Revelation Users' Conference will be held October 4-7 at the Rio All-Suite Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada. Aside from the customary mix of technical and training sessions, Revelation will be providing two, in-depth OpenInsight for Web (O4W) training sessions at this year's conference.

NGMC, a one-stop shop for credit information within the service industry, deals with clients on both a domestic and international level. The company migrated from its previous database management system to Reality in November in order to take advantage of the greater functionality that Reality provided.

The rise of big data has garnered much of the attention in the data management arena lately. But it is not simply the sheer volume of data that is challenging data professionals. Many new types and brands of DBMSs are also popping up across organizations, bringing new problems for the data professionals who are tasked with managing them, and also giving rise to scores of "accidental database administrators" with no formal DBA training, a new Unisphere Research study reveals. The results of the survey are explained in a report titled "Data Cross-Currents: 2011 Survey on Cross-Platform Database Administration," now available from Quest Software.

Rocket Software has announced that U2 DataVu has been enhanced to make it easier to combine queries and results then filter and quickly create reports and charts with a couple of clicks using the quick report wizard. The new release provides drilldown scenarios to enable end users to slice their data so they can drill into different views of their results. Additionally, in the new release, predictive analytics, flexible result set joining and appending, cross-tabulations and data normalizations together with result set filtering and improved parameter prompting, make U2 DataVu V2.0 significantly easier to use.

MITS, a provider of advanced reporting and analytics solutions, has announced a new inventory analysis tool for wholesale distributors using the Epicor (formerly Activant) Prelude distribution management system called the Prelude Inventory Hypercube. The Prelude Inventory Hypercube, which is being sold in partnership with Epicor, consists of a specialized, analytics-tuned data collection culled from inventory data in Prelude that enables business users to quickly and easily perform a wide range of inventory analyses. The agency is using Vertafore's Sagitta agency management system and had been manually creating and distributing recurring reports, and using Excel to customize the reports and create-user specific versions. The U2 Migration Factory combines an Automated Migration Tool (AMT) with the expertise of migration specialists who have completed more than one thousand successful migrations. Any application running on another MultiValue database would qualify as a candidate for the U2 Migration Factory, "but would you believe there are people still running on Ultimate? It is limited to use with the personal editions of UniData and UniVerse, but will allow customers and consultants the opportunity to try out this product free of charge, notes Susie Siegesmund, vice president and general manager, U2 Brand, Rocket Software. BlueFinity International demonstrated how to create a simple SSIS transformation to move MultiValue data into MS SQL Server using mv.SSIS recently during a webinar.According to BlueFinity, Microsoft SQL Server's tool set called SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS) provides a rich environment for developers to define how external data is to be imported into an SQL database. SSIS is a graphical tool which runs inside Visual Studio and allows data importing activities to be built for purposes such as data mining, data migration, reporting and OLAP.
