Cognyte, a security analytics software company that provides governments and enterprises with actionable intelligence, will open trading on the Nasdaq Stock Market by ringing the opening bell today in recognition of it becoming an independent public company following the completion of its spin-off off from Verint Systems. Cognyte will begin "regular way" trading on the NASDAQ on February 2, 2021 under the symbol "CGNT."

Rapid7, a provider of security analytics and automation, has acquired Alcide.IO Ltd., a provider of Kubernetes security based in Tel Aviv, Israel. This is the second acquisition Rapid7 has made in the cloud security market in the past 9 months, having acquired DivvyCloud, a provider of software for cloud security posture management (CSPM) this past April. Together, these acquisitions will enhance Rapid7's ability to provide a cloud-native security platform to its customers and facilitate continuous management of risk and compliance across their cloud environments.

Redgate Software has acquired the assets of the Professional Association for SQL Server (PASS), which ended operations on January 15. Redgate said it plans to revive the Summit, continue SQLSaturdays, and make available the PASS library of content and training sessions. Redgate is drawing up plans for running a replacement for the Summit as a virtual event in 2021. With SQLSaturdays at the heart of the SQL Server community, these will be brought back so that data professionals from LA to London can continue to learn at local events.

Delphix, provider of programmable data infrastructure, is offering new capabilities that close critical data gaps against ransomware attacks. "You can drive a truck through the holes in legacy ransomware solutions," said Jedidiah Yueh, CEO of Delphix. "Once-a-day backups are insufficient. Companies can't afford to lose a day's worth of transactional data. In addition, closed-box backup approaches fail to safeguard against undetected attacks, sometimes for months. Companies need an open-box detection approach, especially for mission-critical data."

Oracle Database 21c is now available on Oracle Cloud, including the Always Free tier of Oracle Autonomous Database. The new release contains more than 200 new innovations, including immutable blockchain tables, in-database JavaScript, native JSON binary data type, AutoML for in-database machine learning (ML), and persistent memory store, as well as enhancements for in-memory, graph processing performance, sharding, multitenant, and security. "Oracle Database 21c continues our strategy of delivering the world's most powerful converged database engine," said Andrew Mendelsohn, executive vice president, database server technologies, Oracle.

Cockroach Labs, the company behind CockroachDB, is receiving $160 million in new funding, enabling the company to continue its investments in product development to better support its customers. This latest funding round was led by Altimeter Capital with participation from new investors Greenoaks and Lone Pine, and existing investors Benchmark, BOND, FirstMark, GV, Index Ventures, and Tiger Global. This round brings Cockroach Labs' total funding to $355 million at a valuation of $2 billion.

BMC has announced several new capabilities and enhancements for the BMC Automated Mainframe Intelligence (AMI) and Compuware portfolios that enable BMC mainframe customers to protect uptime and availability, defend the mainframe against cybersecurity threats, and advance enterprise DevOps. IBM Security is offering a new service that allows companies to experiment with fully homomorphic encryption (FHE)—an emerging technology designed to allow data to remain encrypted even while being processed or analyzed in cloud or third-party environments. The funding round was led by Sutter Hill Ventures and Altimeter Capital, and joined by D1, Coatue, Dragoneer Investment Group, Liberty Global Ventures, Snowflake Ventures, and Tiger Capital. "Building on cloud is the biggest shift the IT industry has ever witnessed.
