Oracle has unveiled Oracle Data Integrator for Big Data to help make big data integration more accessible and actionable for customers. The goal with the new data integration capabilities is to bring together disparate communities that have emerged within the Oracle client base and allow the mainstream DBAs and ETL developers as well as the big data development organization to be brought together on a single platform for collaboration, said Jeff Pollock, vice president of product management at Oracle.

SAP has announced it has certified its products on Oracle Database 12c. "More than two-thirds of all SAP customers run their SAP applications on the Oracle Database today. There is a strong overlap," said Sohan DeMel, vice president, Product Strategy and Business Development, Oracle. "These joint customers are looking to leverage Oracle's best database technology."

Using StretchDB, an enterprise can "stretch" an on-premises database into the cloud, such that "hot," heavily used data is stored in the on-premises instance of SQL Server, while "cold" and infrequently used data is transparently stored in Azure. A stretched database automatically and transparently manages synchronization and movement of aging data from on-premises to the cloud.

Fujitsu America, a communication technology company, and Quantum Corp., a storage systems vendor, announced an agreement to offer North American customers a joint solution for large enterprise and mainframe backup and archive storage that encompasses disk and tape technologies. The joint solution leverages the Fujitsu ETERNUS CS8000 unified data protection appliance for deduplicated disk-based backup and Quantum Scalar LTO intelligent tape libraries for long-term data retention.

Oracle announced that fiscal 2015 Q3 total revenues were unchanged at $9.3 billion. Without the currency headwinds caused by the strengthening of the U.S. dollar, the company said total revenues would have been up 6% as measured in constant currency. "Oracle now has a cloud revenue run rate of well over $2 billion a year. We are already the world's second largest SaaS and PaaS company," said Oracle chairman and CTO Larry Ellison during a conference call discussing Oracle's third quarter financial results.

Sqrrl, a big data analytics company that develops software to uncover hidden patterns, trends, and links in data, has announced the launch of Sqrrl Enterprise 2.0 coinciding with receiving $7 million in new funding. Sqrrl was developed by former employees of the NSA. "We don't shy away from our NSA heritage, we see it as a strength," stated Ely Kahn, co-founder and director of business development for Sqrrl.
