CommVault announced yesterday that it has formed a partnership with Informatica to deliver an integrated archiving solution that extends support to leading databases and applications, including Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle, DB2, SAP, PeopleSoft, Siebel and other custom or legacy applications. This new technology partnership will enable CommVault Simpana software customers to easily archive large databases from mission-critical business applications, such as CRM and ERP systems, to better streamline e-discovery and improve database space management.

Microsoft Corporation has acquired Opalis Software, an IT process vendor. Opalis will be integrated into the Microsoft System Center product line. Opalis' IT process automation tools are designed to enable the streamlining of IT operations by removing of the overhead associated with manual response to IT problems. The acquisition "means that IT process automation will become a mainstream offering throughout all levels of IT shops, large and small," according to Todd DeLaughter, president and CEO of Opalis Software. "No coding or scripting is required to use Opalis so IT experts from operations to development teams can participate in driving IT efficiency."

Attachmate Corporation has achieved Common Use Passenger Processing Systems (CUPPS) certification for its INFOConnect Enterprise Edition for Airlines Print and Transaction Router (PTR32) solutions. The certification addresses a need among airlines that are working to migrate their technology to the CUPPS platform, gradually replacing the Common Use Terminal Equipment (CUTE), which is the current check-in and boarding standard. Attachmate is one of the first application vendors to receive this certification.

Panorama Software, a provider of proactive Business Intelligence (BI) solutions, has announced its plans for the next release of its flagship product suite NovaView. Panorama's next release will extend its Microsoft SQL Server Analysis Services support to natively support Microsoft's new PowerPivot technology (formerly known as Project Gemini). SQL Server Analysis Services (SSAS) is Microsoft's online analytical processing (OLAP) technology, and PowerPivot is the name for Microsoft's next major update to SSAS.

Southeast Community College is using Informer, decreasing the time required for data evaluation and collection, Entrinsik has announced. Using Informer, time required for data evaluation and collection decreased dramatically and Southeast was able to create one record with all the required elements and then export to an Excel macro file for additional data manipulation, much of which can now be done using the "Add Calculations" feature of Informer 4.0. "The whole process from start to upload is now just a few minutes compared to an hour previously," notes Duane Roth, IT programmer/analyst, at the college.

Talend, an open source data integration software company, recently announced a significant upgrade to the Talend Integration Suite and to Talend Open Studio. Talend Open Studio is the free, open source ETL software platform that Talend offers under a GPL license. It provides business modeling of the data integration process, graphical development, metadata management, and a wide array of data connectors. Talend Integration Suite is the commercial version of Open Studio that Talend sells as an annual subscription license, and that extends Talend Open Studio with technical support and features to facilitate the work of large teams and enterprise-scale deployments. Talend, a provider of data integration, ETL, and data quality software, recently announced it has acquired all rights to the master data management (MDM) technology of Amalto Technologies. As a result of this acquisition, Talend says it will be the first company to offer an open source MDM solution, providing organizations with the exact features and benefits found in proprietary MDM solutions, at a fraction of the cost.
