Any organization that attaches importance to its data strategy must ensure that mobility remains a core part of its strategy and capabilities. However, many have valuable data that is locked in storage solos, hosted on everything from traditional storage technologies to fully outsourced service providers in the cloud. This does little to facilitate data mobility—an essential part of an approach which determines how well businesses can access and action their data assets. Effective migration can bridge the gap between infrastructure, protocols, and growing data volumes to deliver access to data that helps businesses to move forward with confidence.

The COVID-19 pandemic has taken its toll on many organizations and, in December 2020, PASS announced that, due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, it is ceasing all regular operations, effective January 15, 2021. In a letter on its website, the PASS board explained the situation, stating, "PASS could not have anticipated the impact COVID-19 would have on the world, and on our organization. We are all reeling from what this year has been and done, and it is with heavy hearts that we must share yet one more bit of bad news from the annus horribilis that was 2020."

Lacework, provider of a security platform for the cloud generation, has closed a $525 million growth round, bringing it to a valuation of more than $1 billion. The funding round was led by Sutter Hill Ventures and Altimeter Capital, and joined by D1, Coatue, Dragoneer Investment Group, Liberty Global Ventures, Snowflake Ventures, and Tiger Capital. "Building on cloud is the biggest shift the IT industry has ever witnessed. Constant cloud changes require a new approach to security critical for our customers adapting and scaling as fast as clouds innovate," said Dan Hubbard, CEO, Lacework.

Starburst, the analytics anywhere company, is receiving $100 million in Series C funding, enabling the company to expand upon its single point of access mission. This recent financing bringing the three-year-old company's total to $164 million and valuation to $1.2 billion. The financing round was led by Andreessen Horowitz, with participation from Salesforce Ventures, as well as existing investors Coatue and Index Ventures.

Oracle has opened its new Chile Cloud Region, marking Oracle's 29th Cloud region worldwide. The opening is part of Oracle's plan to have 38 Cloud regions by the end of 2021. The Chile Cloud region will provide reduced latency to organizations, decreasing the time it takes for data to be transferred from the data center where the application data is hosted. In addition, the move to an Oracle Cloud region helps security-focused enterprises that need to meet demanding data residency requirements.

Truera, providers of a Model Intelligence platform, has raised $12 million in Series A funding that will accelerate recruiting, product development, and sales and marketing. The round was led by Wing VC with participation from returning investors Conversion Capital and Greylock and new investors Data Community Fund, B Capital Group via the firm's Ascent Fund, and Harpoon Ventures. This brings Truera's total funding to date to $17.3M.

MariaDB Corporation announced the certification and immediate availability of the MariaDB Direct Query Adapter in Microsoft Power BI.
