Cloudentity, a provider of application identity and authorization software, has released GraphQL support capabilities that secure GraphQL application programming interfaces (APIs). According to Cloudentity, GraphQL adoption continues to double year-over-year within the developer community, and it's estimated that millions of developers will use GraphQL for projects over the next few years. This widespread adoption is spurred by the user-friendly description of data in APIs that GraphQL provides. However, the company contends, while GraphQL APIs accelerate application development, save time and resources, and improve the developer experience, they also create new security risks and challenges for API data leakage.

IBM has announced new capabilities designed to modernize applications across hybrid cloud environments. These include plans to deliver IBM Z as-a-service on IBM Cloud for development and test in the second half of 2022, as well as additional tools for developing hybrid applications. According to the IBM Institute for Business Value study, "Application Modernization on the Mainframe," 71% of responding executives say mainframe-based applications are central to their business strategy.

Software intelligence company Dynatrace has extended the Dynatrace platform's observability and advanced AIOps capabilities to all major serverless architectures. In early November 2021, Microsoft announced the private preview of its flagship database product, SQL Server 2022. At some point in 2022, we will see SQL Server 2022 released as a general availability (GA) product, but the specific release date has not yet been disclosed. We can expect to see a variety of the announced features in the next major release deployed to Azure SQL customers. Microsoft has a long history of deploying new features to the Azure cloud far in advance of the on-prem products.

NVIDIA announced that its AI Enterprise 1.1 is now generally available, bringing new updates including production support for containerized AI with the NVIDIA software on VMware vSphere with Tanzu, which was previously only available on a trial basis. Vista Equity Partners, a global investment firm focused exclusively on enterprise software, data, and technology-enabled businesses, and Evergreen Coast Capital, an affiliate of Elliott Investment Management L.P., have entered into a deal to acquire Citrix in an all-cash transaction valued at $16.5 billion. Vista and Evergreen intend to combine Citrix and TIBCO Software, one of Vista's portfolio companies. The companies say this union will create one of the world's largest software providers, serving 400,000 customers, including 98% of the Fortune 500, with 100 million users in 100 countries.
