Cloudera Enterprise is now certified to run on VMware VSphere. Through the VMware Ready program, VMware and Cloudera completed a joint validation process, enabling enterprises to simplify and accelerate the use of Apache Hadoop within virtual and cloud environments.

SAP AG has announced the SAP HANA Enterprise Cloud service. With the new offering, running mission-critical SAP ERP, SAP CRM, SAP NetWeaver Business Warehouse and new applications powered by the SAP HANA in-memory platform, will be possible as a managed cloud service with elastic petabyte-scale.

OpenText, a provider of enterprise information management (EIM) software, announced the expansion of the OpenText ECM Suite for SAP Solutions in support of SAP's latest technologies, including the SAP HANA platform, and cloud and mobility solutions. This support builds on a partnership that spans more than two decades and is growing every year, says Patrick Barnert, senior vice president, Partners and Alliances, OpenText. OpenText, he adds, is the first SAP ISV partner to have its products fully tested and confirmed by SAP to be integrated with SAP Business Suite powered by SAP HANA.

Software AG has launched a cloud-based Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) suite, intended to support the building of cloud-based applications. The Software AG Live suite, now available, includes integration and business process management capabilities. In addition, Software AG says it will be releasing a new version of Software AG's webMethods Integration Server that supports elastic scaling across hybrid deployments - public cloud, private cloud and on-premise. The new release, branded as Dynamic Cloud Scaling, will be available in the second half of 2013.

NuoDB, Inc., a provider of a cloud data management system offering SQL compliance and guaranteed ACID transactions, has introduced the NuoDB Starlings Release 1.1. Following on from its 1.0 release in January, NuoDB's Starlings Release 1.1 focuses on overall usability in three key areas, Seth Proctor, NuoDB chief architect, tells DBTA. The enhancements focus on greater Microsoft Windows support, general performance and stability, and an improved development and management experience in the web console, says Proctor.

Cloudant, a provider of a globally distributed database-as-a-service (DBaaS), has announced $12 million in series B funding from Devonshire Investors, the private equity firm affiliated with Fidelity Investments; RackspaceHosting, the open cloud leader; and Toba Capital. The company also announced that current investors — Avalon Ventures, In-Q-Tel, Samsung Venture Investment Corporation — purchased additional shares. The funding will be used to support Cloudant's global expansion and grow the company's support, service, and go-to-market strategies.

BI software vendor Yellowfin has signed an agreement with DIKW, a Dutch provider of business intelligence consulting, training and services. PerspecSys Inc., a provider of cloud data protection solutions for the enterprise, announced it has raised $12 million in funding co-led by new investors Paladin Capital Group and Ascent Venture Partners, and joined by return backer Intel Capital and other existing institutional investors. The new round of financing, combined with Series A funding, brings the total investment in PerspecSys to over $20 million. With offices in the U.S., U.K. and Canada, PerspecSys aims to remove what it says are primary barriers to cloud adoption at the enterprise level - security and control.

10gen, the MongoDB company, has introduced MongoDB Backup Service, providing a monthly pay-as-you-go service. MongoDB Backup Service, available as a limited release, joins the free, cloud-based MongoDB Monitoring Service, which has more than 17,000 users. General availability of the new backup service is anticipated later this year.

BluePhoenix, a legacy application lifecycle vendor, announced the release of a proprietary code base that enables mainframe processes to be run from off-mainframe infrastructure. The vendor's Cloud Transaction Engine (CTE) is a module of the company's soon-to-be-released ATLAS Platform. The vendor also now offers a "Batch In The Cloud" service as the first formal offering leveraging CTE capabilities.

The Independent Oracle Users Group (IOUG) will celebrate its 20th anniversary at COLLABORATE 13, a conference on Oracle technology presented jointly by the IOUG, OAUG (Oracle Applications User Group) and the Quest International User Group. The event will be held April 7 to 11 at the Colorado Convention Center in Denver. As part of the conference, the IOUG will host the COLLABORATE 13-IOUG Forum with nearly 1,000 sessions providing user-driven content. The theme of this year's COLLABORATE 13-IOUG Forum is "Elevate - take control of your career and elevate your Oracle ecosystem knowledge and expertise," says IOUG president John Matelski.

IBM announced that all cloud services and software will be based on an open cloud architecture. As the first step, IBM unveiled a new private cloud offering based on the open sourced OpenStack software that it says speeds and simplifies managing an enterprise-grade cloud. The offering provides businesses with a core set of open source-based technologies to build enterprise-class cloud services that can be ported across hybrid cloud environments. The IBM announcement "goes a long way" to position OpenStack against other more proprietary solutions, Jim Curry, senior vice president and general manager of Rackspace's Private Cloud business, tells DBTA.
