Redgate Software has acquired the assets of the Professional Association for SQL Server (PASS), which ended operations on January 15. Redgate said it plans to revive the Summit, continue SQLSaturdays, and make available the PASS library of content and training sessions. Redgate is drawing up plans for running a replacement for the Summit as a virtual event in 2021. With SQLSaturdays at the heart of the SQL Server community, these will be brought back so that data professionals from LA to London can continue to learn at local events.

Classiq, enabling the development of quantum algorithms and applications, announced it has secured $14.5 million in funding that will enable the company to accelerate the development of quantum computing software. The $10.5 million Series A financing round was led by Team8 and Wing Venture Capital, with additional participation from Entrée Capital, OurCrowd, and IN Venture, the corporate venture arm of Sumitomo Corporation in Israel, and follows a $4 million seed financing round from Entrée Capital.

"You can drive a truck through the holes in legacy ransomware solutions," said Jedidiah Yueh, CEO of Delphix. "Once-a-day backups are insufficient. Companies can't afford to lose a day's worth of transactional data. In addition, closed-box backup approaches fail to safeguard against undetected attacks, sometimes for months. Oracle Database 21c is now available on Oracle Cloud, including the Always Free tier of Oracle Autonomous Database. The new release contains more than 200 new innovations, including immutable blockchain tables, in-database JavaScript, native JSON binary data type, AutoML for in-database machine learning (ML), and persistent memory store, as well as enhancements for in-memory, graph processing performance, sharding, multitenant, and security. "Oracle Database 21c continues our strategy of delivering the world's most powerful converged database engine," said Andrew Mendelsohn, executive vice president, database server technologies, Oracle.

GridGain Systems, provider of enterprise-grade in-memory computing solutions powered by the Apache Ignite distributed database, has announced GridGain 8.8, a new release that provides enhanced support for GridGain's multi-tier database engine, which scales up and out across memory and disk. The changes enable customers to leverage the disk tier of the database to query much larger datasets, reduce total cost of ownership, and secure sensitive or personal data at rest. This will enable them to use GridGain for a greater number of production use cases, ranging from complex real-time analytics to mission-critical transactional workloads.
