Xplenty, a data integration cloud platform, is releasing a new offering that will enable users to query and analyze data directly on Amazon Simple Storage Service (Amazon S3). RedPoint Global's two platforms, Interaction and Data Management, are now available on the Microsoft Azure Marketplace, giving data-driven marketers access RedPoint's data and campaign management tools on the cloud for the first time. "We want to go into this cloud world with our software and we're changing the paradigm of the way people even buy software and the way they do their processing of their data," said Dale Renner, CEO and founder of RedPoint. VoltDB has selected the Progress DataDirect OpenAccess SDK to increase access to business intelligence tools that allow VoltDB customers to visualize and access fast-moving data. To access data, users want to be able deploy conventional tooling and reporting tools, said John Piekos, vice president of engineering for VoltDB. "They want to do dashboards on top of this fast-moving data. We provide a JDBC interface but we also found we needed to provide ODBC access as well so we could leverage the last 30 years of ODBC reporting and BI tools."

Oracle announced more than two dozen new PaaS and IaaS services spanning database, Java, integration, analytics, compute, storage, and networking services. "We are now prepared to call our platform and our infrastructure services complete," said Oracle executive chairman of the board and CTO Larry Ellison during the launch event. A key tenet of Oracle's cloud strategy, said Ellison is to offer the same technology on-premise and in the cloud "so you can easily move your data and applications back and forth."

MapR Technologies, Inc., a provider of a distribution for Apache Hadoop, is including Apache Drill 1.0 in the MapR Distribution. Drill is a schema-free SQL query engine for Hadoop, NoSQL, and cloud storage. According to MapR, the partner ecosystem is embracing Apache Drill, and a range of companies, including SAP, are working closely with MapR and the Drill community to interoperate BI tools with Drill through standard ODBC/JDBC connectivity.

The landscape for database management systems is changing more rapidly these days than it has since the earliest days of the relational DBMS. Not only do we have an onslaught of NoSQL database systems of various different forms (column, document, key/value, and graph databases), but we also see a burgeoning market for in-memory database management, where the DBMS relies on main memory instead of disk for data storage, management, and manipulation. But there is another "category" of DBMS evolving that is known as "NewSQL."

The solution, which combines the speed and scalability of the ObjectRocket platform with dedicated hardware and networking for compliance-dependent use cases is aimed at providing the the performance, security and compliance required in high-risk industries such as healthcare, financial services and insurance. IBM is acquiring Blue Box Group to simplify the running of private clouds using OpenStack-based solutions. Blue Box is a privately held company based in Seattle that provides businesses with a private cloud as a service platform based on OpenStack. IBM says the addition will help businesses integrate their cloud-based applications and on-premises systems into OpenStack-based managed cloud. Additionally, Blue Box strengthens IBM Cloud's existing OpenStack portfolio with the introduction of a remotely managed OpenStack offering. This offering provides clients with a local cloud and increased visibility, control and security.

Based on a three-part roadmap, Teradata's says its contributions will be 100% open source under the Apache license and will advance Presto's code base, scalability, iterative querying, and ability to query multiple data repositories.
