STORServer, a provider of data backup solutions, has released a downloadable virtual machine designed to use VMware Consolidated Backup. The new solution, Virtual Appliance (VA), provides organizations the ability to use existing infrastructure with STORServer’s software and solutions, without the hardware typically required. Instead, VA is a downloadable VMDK file that provides the same backup capabilities.
The solution provides management from a single console, and is designed to back up multiple operating systems and email applications, in addition to supporting most database platforms (requires optional database agents) and locations, including virtual machines, local and remote devices. Backups and restores can take place across all network connections (NAS, SAN, LAN and WAN) from hundreds of storage devices.
Each VA uses the same Enterprise or Basic TSM software as other appliances, provides disk-to-disk-to-DR (disk, tape, cloud or appliance) configurations and scales for future growth.
