Rapid Insight Inc., a data analytics tool provider, announced the launch of a new integration tool that enables users to visually map where data is originating and where it's being applied. The solution, called Veera, is built upon an earlier Rapid Insight product, Data Integration 2.0, and is intended to help users overcome common barriers to data access, ad-hoc analysis, and report generation.

NorthScale, Inc., a Silicon Valley software startup, has launched with the introduction of data infrastructure software optimized for the data management requirements of web applications and cloud computing environments. The company was founded by leaders of the memcached open source project, and NorthScale's technical team collectively represents about 60% of the lines of code behind the memcached project, James Phillips, co-founder and chief strategy officer of NorthScale, tells 5 Minute Briefing.

Informatica Corporation yesterday announced that it has completed the acquisition of 29West Inc, a provider of Ultra-Low Latency Messaging (ULLM) technology. According to Informatica, 29West ULLM technology is used by customers to send and receive millions of messages per second with microsecond delivery times for zero-latency data delivery.

SymSoft Corporation, a provider of governance, risk and compliance (GRC) solutions for SAP environments, has announced the release of ControlPanelGRC User and Role Change Analyzer. The new module, which is part of SymSoft's ControlPanelGRC suite of GRC solutions, provides security administrators with the ability to create additional documentation on the reasons changes were made on users and provide versioning of roles in SAP systems.

Intel Corporation launched a new upgraded processor series designed to combine new security, performance and energy efficiency features. Intel's Xeon Processor 5600 series. The new processors are intended to deliver two new security features — Intel Advanced Encryption Standard New Instructions (Intel AES-NI), and Intel Trusted Execution Technology (Intel TXT), which enable faster encryption and decryption performance for more secure transactions and virtualized environments.

DataFlux, a provider of data management solutions, announced a unified environment that enables data quality, data integration and master data management (MDM) to be managed from a single interface. Called the DataFlux Data Management Platform, the system is designed to help organizations to plan, build, implement and monitor data-centric projects, and extend them across the enterprise. "The main thing the platform is trying to accomplish is a single place where you can do data quality, data integration, and master data management," Daniel Teachey, senior director of marketing for DataFlux, tells 5 Minute Briefing. "We believe there's a market for having those three things as part of the same implementation or same type of effort. So if you're going to do MDM, there has to be elements of quality and integration in there. Integration typically requires a lot of quality built on to it, sort of like the Russian dolls where things are nested within each other."

Progress Software Corporation yesterday announced the launch of a new business solution intended to enable enterprises to improve business performance. The solution, Progress Responsive Process Management suite (RPM), combines comprehensive visibility, business event processing and business process management (BPM) capabilities on a single, unified platform. "The reason we've created this suite is in response to what we have been seeing in our customer base. Our customers want to gain what we call ‘operational responsiveness.' In other words, to have a business that is highly adaptive, can anticipate opportunities and threats, and respond before they have been missed, or before it is too late," Dr. John Bates, Progress Software CTO, tells 5 Minute Briefing.

IBM today announced plans to go online with its commercial cloud service for software development and testing. IBM, which already delivers a test and development cloud, is now allowing enterprise and government clients to test and develop on an IBM Cloud. According to IBM, the average enterprise devotes up to 50% of its entire technology infrastructure to development and test, but typically up to 90% of it remains idle. IBM's approach to cloud is intended to complement clients' current data centers and traditional development efforts.

Pegasystems Inc., a provider of business process management (BPM) software solutions, and Chordiant Software, Inc., a provider of customer relationship management (CRM) software and services, have announced they have entered into a definitive agreement for Pegasystems to acquire Chordiant. Under the terms of the agreement, Pegasystems will make a cash tender offer of $5.00 per share for all outstanding shares of Chordiant common stock for a total purchase price of up to approximately $161.5 million, assuming all outstanding shares are tendered. The transaction is subject to customary closing conditions, including regulatory approvals, and is expected to close in Q2 2010.

BlueStripe Software has announced full support of IBM AIX and Microsoft Windows 2008 operating systems for its FactFinder application performance management product, while continuing support for Windows Server 2003 Server, Windows XP, Sun Solaris, and Linux. Sybase, Inc. recently reported financial results for the fourth quarter and full year ended December 31, 2009. "2009 was obviously a great year of major accomplishment for Sybase," stated John Chen, chairman, CEO and president, during the Q4 earnings call. "We are very pleased that we delivered consistent financial performance throughout the year," which culminated in "the best quarter of the company history in Q4 and a third consecutive year of record revenue, earnings, as well as cash flow." For the full year, he noted, revenue came in at $1.17 billion, the highest ever, and above the company's outlook as it entered into 2009, 12 months ago.
