The Rocket U2 team has set the dates for U2 University. The U.S. event will be November 9-11, 2010, in Denver, Colo. The U.K. and Australia events have been scheduled for the first quarter of 2011.

NorthgateArinso (Northgate) has announced that Anderson Business Technology has gone live with its Reality system. Anderson Business Technology, an office equipment, supply and service provider, teamed up with Northgate to overhaul its system to a contemporary Reality database in a Microsoft Windows server environment. "There is no other sector that moves as fast as technology," says David Anderson, company president and grandson of the founder. "If you are not prepared to make the changes you need to keep pace, you don't survive."

Members of Entrinsik's product development team have been selected to demonstrate their use of the Google Web Toolkit (GWT) in the development of the latest release of Informer Web Reporting at the upcoming Google I/O Developer Conference. This marks the second year in a row the Entrinsik team has been selected to partiipate in the conference. The two-day event will be held on May 19-20 at the Moscone Center in San Francisco and Entrinsik developers will be demonstrating Informer in the Developers Sandbox.

Fortis Bank Nederland's Singapore office has gone live with banking system provider Temenos' T24 platform utilizing jBASE technology. The process was completed in 5 months and was driven by Fortis Bank Nederland's (FBN) separation from its Belgian counterpart. It marks the first stage of a consolidation process which will see the T24 system rolled out internationally from a central hub in the Netherlands. The bank now plans to extend T24 to offices in the U.K., U.S., Hong Kong and continental Europe and expects to complete the project by the third quarter of 2010.

Information Capital (InfoCap), a systems integrator specializing in the development and integration of local government data processing solutions, has added Ladybridge Systems' OpenQM to the databases compatible with its 4GL, fourth-tier WTK application development tool. "We see this agreement as having the potential to make QM a major player in U.S. local government systems," Martin Phillips, technical director of Ladybridge Systems, tells DBTA.

Revelation Software is currently working on OpenInsight for TigerLogic D3. "Just as we have OpenInsight for U2, we will have OpenInsight for D3. Eventually, we hope that OpenInsight becomes a front-end graphical development to the D3 environnment," explains Robert Catalano, director of sales for Revelation. The new product came about after Mike Ruane, Revelation's president and CEO, attended TigerLogic's first user conference in many years in early November. "Many of their users are still using green screen technology or if they are doing it with a graphical front end, it is something like Java, where the skill set just isn't what they have. With the addition of OpenInsight as a front end to D3, they gain the ability to use the same skill set that they have right now, and they get to create a graphical front end to the database that they already have."

Southeast Community College is using Informer, decreasing the time required for data evaluation and collection, Entrinsik has announced. Using Informer, time required for data evaluation and collection decreased dramatically and Southeast was able to create one record with all the required elements and then export to an Excel macro file for additional data manipulation, much of which can now be done using the "Add Calculations" feature of Informer 4.0. "The whole process from start to upload is now just a few minutes compared to an hour previously," notes Duane Roth, IT programmer/analyst, at the college.

IBM recently completed the sale of its worldwide U2 database and tools assets to Rocket Software, a global software development firm, based in Newton, Mass. "The entire U2 team worldwide is moving from IBM to Rocket," Susie Siegesmund, director, IBM U2 Data Servers and Tools, IBM Information Management Software, tells DBTA, reiterating sentiments expressed in a letter to customers when the sale was announced, in which she assured them that the change of ownership will be a benefit to U2's product line as well as customers and business partners and will not affect relationships with the U2 business.

U2U will be held in Denver, Colo., from September 16 through September 18; and in Liverpool, UK, from October 13 through October 15. Revelation has announced Universal Driver 4.6 targeted at organizations running multi-user Revelation-based applications on a Windows Server. Revelation will be releasing two versions of Universal Driver 4.6, including a free version for customers who have purchased a license for OpenInsight 9.0; and there also is a new installer with this version, Robert Catalano, director of sales at Revelation, tells DBTA.

IBM has launched the early adopter program for U2JPA, which is planned for general availability at the end of this quarter. The Java Persistence API is a Java framework that allows developers to manage relational data. IBM is seeking participants who program in Java and are interested in testing the U2 Java Persistence API.

Ladybridge Systems, a privately owned U.K,-based company, has announced that BookMasters, one of the largest distributors of books in the U.S., has completed migration of their 105-user business system to QM. Running on a quad core Xeon system with five 32Gb Managed Flash Technology drives (Easy Computing Company) the migration has significantly reduced costs and is delivering high performance, according to the companies. Application level read rates averaging in excess of 95,000 records per second have been recorded. Some reports that previously took several hours to complete now run in just a few minutes.
